Students and Parents Decided to Enter Mainstream System: King - VOCM
Education Minister Darin King says it was the parents and students' choice to move from the School for the Deaf into the mainstream school system. On VOCM Open Line with Randy Simms, King says one of the fundamental reasons behind the School for the Deaf's closure is that students were hearing about the success of their peers over the past few years, and in paticular, about those who moved into the Gonzaga system. He says they're hearing about the tremendous opportunities that those students feel they're now being provided by being amongst their peers and having the opportunity to participate in extracurricular activities and the wide range of courses, which they didn't have at the School for the Deaf.
