Care services 'fail deaf children' - The Press Association
The National Deaf Children's Society (NDCS) has demanded better protection for deaf children after research suggested they are being failed by social care services. Deaf children are more than three times as likely to suffer abuse as hearing children and two in five (40%) will experience mental health problems. Yet a survey for NDCS found three out of five authorities providing social care did not regard a deaf child as a "child in need", although the Children Act 1989 includes them in that definition.
